DTE Virtual Appliance Download

IVE 7.0, Virtual Appliance

Well it took a bit of extra time after we shipped 7.0 to get this to where it could be downloaded, but waiting is now rewarded. You can head over to the download site and pick it up.  But please remember that you must already be covered under an existing support contract for the SSL VPN product before accessing these files.  If you do, then you will have a valid logon that will entitle you to download this package.  Otherwise, you will just need to contact your friendly Juniper reseller.

Important:  The virtual appliance will expand out to somewhere around 3GB once  you have it in a .vmdk format.  To get it there, you will have to first use the VMware Converter to turn the .ovf into the .vmdk.

As for support, there is no support (because there is no support contract that is sold for demo and training versions).  So for and questions or suggestions, just post them here and I will do what I can to help you out.  Sorry, no SLA commitments on that one.  :-)

Incidentally, if you’re using ESXi, you can simply choose “Deploy OVF Template” from the main menu of the vSphere client. It’ll haul the OVF/VMDK combo you just downloaded straight into your ESXi datastore, ask you a few questions and instantiate it. Quick and easy is an understatement.

Kevin – much Kudos to Juniper for making this available – it’s a huge deal when it comes to testing new configs that you don’t want to hang off production kit, and even more of a deal when it comes to testing new code releases.

Incidentally, how soon after a new code release do you think the DTE version will appear? I think testing new releases in a DTE appliance will be even more valuable than testing new configuration.

You will be able to upgrade virtual appliances using upgrade packages from the support site. We will probably just post new virtual appliance packages with each major release, eg. 7.1R1, 7.2R1 only and not 7.1R3 or 7.2R5.

And thanks for pointing out the ESXi configuration. It’s definitely cleaner than going the free VMware Player route.

This is great. Well done Juniper for taking the virtual training initiative on. Any chance of an (official) Junos DTE?

I can’t really say what the plans are for a Junos virtual appliance. I mean, I really just don’t don’t know. My focus is on the SSL VPN itself and the Junos product managers are in a completely separate building, so we don’t really get to chat about stuff like this. We were actually able to build this DTE version really cheap, given that we were focusing on the Service Provider Edition (SPE) and cutting that down to 2 concurrent users and calling it something else was easy enough to do.
