Thanks for asking. I have been running Windows 7 since a few days after it launched. And before that, Windows Vista, also within days of that launch. Of course I always keep Windows XP virtual machine at the ready for those times where I either need to demo or test something on that platform. At present I have moved away from Network Connect and other clients while I play around with the Pulse client, which, despite still being in beta, has been quite impressive. I can’t wait until we get to release it to the world. http://www.juniper.net/us/en/local/pdf/solutionbriefs/3510353-en.pdf
Most of the other product managers just stick with the corporate Widows XP laptop images.
Oh yeah, one final word on Windows 7. We have been supporting it since version 6.5, which was while Windows 7 was still itself in beta. Although we could not “officially” claim support until Microsoft shipped the final version, we had done enough work ahead of time on their beta builds that we could effectively document the few remaining items and then allow customers to call in for support. We have since cleaned up those remaining items and now claim full support in 6.5R2.
Here’s a good question: Why don’t the SA6500 boxes just ship with redundant power supplies? After all, it is an enterprise-class box…right?
And here’s the good answer: Each SA6500 ships with one AC power supply by default, with the 2nd one being optional. But, many customers don’t require AC power supplies, they require DC power supplies, which we also offer. So, rather than putting 2 supplies in by default, we just offer one and then ask the customer to order the optional power supply; whether or not it is AC or DC is irrelevant, as both will work. This also saves a bunch of confusion by having too many SKUs. Hey, it’s a compromise.
Probably once or twice a month I get someone asking if we are going to support the Citrix receiver client on the iPhone. The answer is…I just don’t know. I was at the Citrix Synergy conference this year when they announced it. I downloaded it, played with it, and got tired with it faster than a stocking-stuffer toy. The problem–for me–was not the UI itself, but rather the applications. I really just don’t like having to multi-touch, pinch-zoom, swipe all over the place in a fat application. More importantly, I just don’t encounter customers that are even remotely excited by the experience. Many would rather just wait until they get back to a netbook, laptop or desktop for that. What the iPhone excels at is the condensed experience, e.g. an application from my bank that gives me just what I need to see, rather than a full desktop view of their web page. So, what I see as the best solution for a customer that wants to run the Citrix Receiver client on the iPhone is to just stand up a Citrix gateway for this specific purpose. Of course that doesn’t mean that every client should then switch over all access to the Citrix gateway, no more than I would ask someone to paint an entire house with a detail brush just because it can do one detailed task quite well, such as painting around borders.
Please feel free to comment and correct me if I am wrong. Are you truly satisfied with running full Applications rather than Apps on the iPhone? I would really like to know what others are seeing here. – Thanks
Did you know that the Juniper SSL VPN can support iPhones, Windows Mobile and Symbian devices (anything with ActiveSync, actually) and that it doesn’t even use up any licensing? Basically, if you have a Juniper SSL VPN — and my guess is you do if you are on this blog — then you can get access to your e-mail without having to fire up a separate VPN client. For the best video review of how to get this done, check out the video below (ffwd to 6:38 for the best starting point on just configuring ActiveSync with an iPhone). Each box now has a soft limit of 5000 simultaneous devices!
I am extremely pleased with the Gartner Magic Quadrant this year, which was just released in mid-December. You can get access to the full report here: http://www.juniper.net/us/en/company/innovation/recognition
Just a nice little demo that one of our technical marketing gurus put together. Note that similar functionlity also exists for Citrix Xen Desktop. Partners: This demo is available to you as well at the AcmeGizmo demo site, including both the user and the admin interfaces.
